This is why Greta Thunberg is my hero and what she has inspired me to do in order to combat climate change, even if it's just one step at a time.
I was totally and completely blown away by Greta Thunberg’s speech this week to the UN Climate Action Summit. If you didn’t get to see it, here it is:
It’s almost embarrassing to try to write anything after that—because she pretty much covers it all.
I literally have been stalking her every move, from her journey across the Atlantic and all the Friday protests she’s organized. What a total force of nature—and it makes me feel like I absolutely HAVE to start taking action – like drastic action – when it comes to climate change.
Because as Greta so gracefully put it, we can’t rely on our current leadership in the U.S. to do anything, especially when it comes to the environment. We’re literally moving backwards—and it’s such a shame to watch. But we are not powerless and true change starts with the individual. Just look at this little powerhouse!
Here’s what Greta has inspired me to commit to doing:
Stop using paper towels. I can wash a damn rag.
Limit and eventually eliminate using plastic. This one is gonna be tough but it can be done.
Recycle, recycle, recycle, recycle.
Buy from and support zero waste and sustainable products.
Bring my own bags (this is basically a commandment in California already) and stop using plastic produce bags.
Switch to a sustainable energy car, ideally a Tesla.
Take more trains and ride more bikes. My dad owns an e-bike store, they are a really great alternative to cars.
Stop drinking bottled water! I love the bkr bottles and I can figure out how to fill a reusable bottle with clean water, I’ve made it this far in life.
Limit the meat I eat / only eat high-quality, grass-fed meat.
Start harnessing the power of the sun when I buy some property.
Most importantly, stay informed and keep making changes to do my part.
AND to show up and support the policies that will help us correct climate change. Just like Greta is doing 🙂
